#1Supreme Court Blocks New York's Race-Based Redistricting
The Supreme Court voted 6-3 to halt a New York trial court order that would have redrawn Rep. Nicole Malliotakis's Staten Island congressional district to engineer a race-favorable voting outcome. Justice Alito, granting the emergency stay, wrote that the plan violated the 14th Amendment by drawing lines for the express purpose of racial engineering. The ruling preserves the current district maps heading into the 2026 midterms.
